I completely agree with Bill’s points here, I was the laziest student in ‘high school’ (I’m British so we call it secondary school) Pretty average grades despite no revision, I didn’t immediately attend university, then one day i started to take an interest in Law and came out with a first with a average percentage of 91.5% which is unusual, and I attribute this academic success to Law being the most interesting thing, I wanted to know more about it, forums, documentary’s, success stories ect..

  13. The “free” in the term free software means libre, not necessairly gratis. Most people realize it takes resources to make software, therefore not being free (gratis). Most free software advocates believe in free software because proprietary software unnecessarily restricts freedom. Software is a collection of algorithms, and algorithms are a field of mathematics. The believe proprietary software would be the same thing as having proprietary mathematics, or proprietary geometry.

  19. If anyone’s interested in really depth explanation of the 10,000 hour rule (briefly described in this video) you should definitely check out Malcolm Gladwell’s book, “Outliers”. It’ll totally make you re-think your ideas about what defines “talent” and why people become successful. Gladwell kinda overplays the timing card though (via his attempts to find the “perfect time to be born for x career”) but other than that little bit of astrology, it’s an awesome book.
