  2. “The MACINTOSH? WTF??” Uh, yes. It’s not as farfetched of a concept as it seems.

Most of you children don’t remember (or don’t care to remember) that Gates and Jobs worked very closely on the Macintosh. At the time there were two personal computers that dominated the marketplace: the Apple II and the IBM PC. Gates knew that he was taking a huge gamble on the Macintosh, just as Jobs was, but it certainly paid off.

  3. You…have no idea what you’re talking about, do you? The Mac OS has also been a closed platform since the very beginning. Also, Windows Live? Who the hell is talking about Windows Live?

  4. The floating-point BASIC provided with Apple II computers from 1977 onwards was called Applesoft BASIC–a portmanteau of Apple and Microsoft. Microsoft worked with Apple on its original Macintosh Desktop Accessories, and licensed back a great deal of it for Windows.

So yeah, it was weird that while PC’s ran other publishers’ applications on Microsoft’s operating system, the only complete range of programs for Apple’s MacOS came from Microsoft.

By the time of this speech, Gates knew Apple well.

  5. At this time, Microsoft didn’t own the application space the way they do now. They had volume deals to provide manufacturers with the DOS kernel for Intel 80386 PC’s.

The retail applications market was dominated by Wordperfect (after beating out WordStar), Ashton-Tate (dBase), and Lotus Development.

You’re watching Gates bet the ranch that the GUI paradigm would the future, and that Microsoft’s only shot at taking on those market leaders would be developing for the Macintosh platform

  6. This was before Windows was any good mind. Windows didn’t really start to get good untill 3.0, or Windows 95 in some peoples opinion.

  7. what’s more better… than to just do something which impress your competetor…nd make him speak in favour

  8. Windows didn’t make PCs back then. They wrote software. Furthermore they wrote the software found inside the macintosh. so yeah, they weren’t competitors.

  9. true that and also this asshole created the os windows to be a closed sourced and shitty games for fail windows live. Fuck that garbage and get rid of it already. Btw everybody is on steam atm and origin can never supply enough orgys for me .

  10. careful people! careful! bill always acts nice friendly before he gets his vaccine syringe in your neck

  11. I too think that way but
if it was Steve Jobs none of this would’ve happenned

  13. Hey guys, windows was originally modeled for apple computers. Apple computers then went to shit when Steve Jobs was fired. When he made his way back into the company years later he needed a way to put apple computers back on the map since new companies(such as IBM and DELL) had come in and taken over. Best way to set them apart, brand new operating system modeled after Linux(most efficient os though not very user friendly like windows). They were never intentionally enemies. Do some research.
