PCU Community Foundation Gives Thanks to Veterans, Families this Holiday Season

Military personnel sacrifice many holidays with their families in service to their country. When they return home, they sometimes find it difficult to resume civilian life – job loss, financial issues, home foreclosures, health and post-traumatic stress concerns – create the need for a broad range of support resources to help them readjust. And that is where the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) comes in.
The PCU Community Foundation is inviting Postal Credit Union (PCU) members and the local community to give thanks to our veterans this holiday season by supporting MACV and its important work. For every dollar donated between November 21 and December 31, 2012, the foundation will match it, up to $ 5,000.
“Our veterans and their families give up so much that we often don’t realize the personal toll it takes on them, especially during the holidays,” said PCU Community Foundation Chairman and PCU President Brian Sherrick. “This is our way of saying we realize your sacrifice and appreciate all you do to protect our freedoms and quality of life.”
The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans provides comprehensive program and supportive services to homeless veterans in three primary focus areas: housing, employment and civil legal concerns. MACV helps veterans achieve self-sufficiency through:
Stabilized living through rent/mortgage assistance and temporary housing
Improved health/quality of life
Access to services
Sustainable, living wage employment through training and placement
Referral and resolution to civil legal issues
Life skills education
Money management skills training and financial plan development
